New Care Certificate
There have been some very scary and some quite horrific stories about abuse of the elderly and other vulnerable groups by ‘care’ workers, both in care homes and at patients own homes.   Now the BBC have said that they have learned that New care workers will be required to earn a training certificate, and that this particular qualification will have to be taken and passed within 12 weeks of starting a job.

The new scheme will become effective from March 2015 in England and will apply to all care staff including care assistants who work in hospitals, in care homes as well as to those care assistants helping people in their own homes.
Areas that will be covered by the new certificate will include patient dignity, control of infection and care of those with dementia.

The new certification has been a direct result of the independent review carried out following the scandal at Stafford Hospital that uncovered inconsistencies in the training of care assistants.
The Minister for Care, Norman Lamb is quoted as having said “it is essential that we drive up standards. There's lots of great care out there but there are too many cases of care falling down."
The minister confirmed that the responsibility for staff taking the certificate would be that of the employers, “which” he said,  “is where responsibility for training should lie".
