Ebola Update
News from the BBC that people
in Sierra Leone, one of the countries that has been the worst affected by the
West African Ebola outbreak, are now to face a four day lock down period during
which they will not be allowed to leave their homes. The move is to try and halt the spread of the
disease.
Between the 18th
and the 21st of September the people living in Sierra Leone will be
told to stay at home while health workers try to identify and isolate cases of
the disease in an attempt to stop its spread.
The deadly virus has
already claimed around 2000 lives in Sierra Leone and in Nigeria, Liberia and
Guinea.
As the British aid worker William
Pooley who was infected and has been treated in London is recovering well after
being given the drug ZMapp there is news that
the World Health Organisation is now to give the vaccine that has been
developed to all the health workers who are in Africa trying to help those
infected with Ebola. Since the latest
outbreak of the disease more than twenty health workers who have been treating
people with the virus, have lost their lives.
The virus is spread by
animals like chimpanzees and fruit bats and as well as given advice about
dealing with these sources of infection, other information about how to avoid
the risk of contracting the virus is another step that is being taken in order
to try and prevent further spread of this deadly virus.
Well will bring you more
new on this continuing news story next week.
