Gum Disease
Gum disease is common and makes the gums become sore and swollen. More than half the adults in the UK are affected but it is rare in children.
My Mum has it mildly, luckily, and she has to use a special wire tooth cleaning brush every day to keep the plaque down. Gum disease is caused by lots of plaque building up when you don’t brush your teeth properly or if you develop a condition call orthodontitis.
Early gum disease can be treated
easily, all you have to do is keep brushing your teeth twice every day and look
after them properly.
If you have really bad gum disease you will need more medical and dental treatment or if it’s severe then you may need surgery.
To stop gum disease you should brush your teeth often and properly and visit the hygienist regularly. Try to stop eating sugary foods and spit out toothpaste but don’t rinse your mouth so the fluoride keeps working, to look after your teeth.
If you don’t treat your gum disease than it may lead to losing teeth, loose teeth and painful infected gums.
Its important to have regular check ups at the dentist so that any problems can be spotted early.
